Why Funeral Catering Is So Important

Funerals are some of the toughest times that any family and group of friends will undertake. Not only is it terrible that you have lost someone so near and dear to you all, but now you are being asked to organise quite a complex event and make sure that nothing is forgotten. From the guests to the venue and everything involved in the burial, there is a lot to remember. One thing you absolutely should not be worried about is the food which is why catering services are a lifesaver.

What Types Of Catering Services Are There?

There are two main types of catering services: sit down and buffet. Sit-down catering services are generally reserved for events like weddings or anniversaries where there are table arrangements and families are seated together and so on. Then food is brought out in individual servings to people at their tables. Buffet catering services generally have a food section where you can grab a plate and choose how much of each dish you want before returning to your place. Generally, buffet services are more suited to funerals because people come and go and move around a lot more.

What Type Of Food Can We Get?

That is the beauty of a catering service: you can pick and choose what you want to eat. If you have a particular dish that is important to your family, you can request it. Otherwise, there are many options but some of the most popular include the following:

  • Pasta
  • Roasts (lamb, beef and pork)
  • Curries of all heat levels
  • A variety of salads
  • Lasagne
  • Seafood
  • And many more side dishes like mashed potato, bread, chips, etc.

Often, the cost of your catering package is judged primarily by how many dishes you choose. Also, more and more catering services offer specialised dietary options like gluten-free, vegan and nut-free options, but make sure to specify this before the day.

Do People Serve It For Us?

Part of most catering services is getting a few servers to help you dish out the delicious food. For buffet-style catering options, you will normally only get two or three servers who prepare the food and then pack it away (generally not doing the dishes or cleaning the tables). For sit-down services, you will most likely get upwards of half a dozen servers as well as some chefs preparing the food in the kitchen. You can also request more servers if you want people to be walking around serving canapés or drinks. Remember—this is about making the funeral as easy as possible, so the more people, the better.
